Diese wilde Artischocke mit der charakteristischen weißen Blüte und den großen stacheligen Blättern wächst an den Küstengebieten unserer Heimat. Es handelt sich um eine Pflanze, die man auf vielen ägäischen Inseln begegnen kann. Sie wächst hauptsächlich auf Kreta und in Südgriechenland. Im Ausland wächst sie nur in Zypern. Auf Kythira wächst sie hauptsächlich im nördlichen Teil der Insel. Wissenschaftliche Bezeichnung: Cynara cornigera Familie: Korbblütler (Asteraceae oder Compositae) Kythiräischer Name: Agria Agginara Name in anderen Gebieten Griechenlands: Agria Agginara Ernte: Man kann sie von März bis April verzehren.  Sie wächst in unbestellten, steinigen Gebieten. Eigenschaften: Die wilde Artischocke ist gegen Lebererkrankungen geeignet. Es handelt sich sowohl um ein stärkendes, galletreibendes Kraut als auch um ein Aphrodisiakum.
