Hem Kithira’da hem Yunanistan’nın genelinde oldukça iyi bilinen bir bitkidir. Plinios bu bitkiye ‘Fakirlerin yiyeceği’ adını vermiştir. Yol kenarlarında yaygın olarak görülebilen bir bitkidir. Farmakolojik özelliklerinden faydalanılmasının yanısıra eski çağlardan bugüne kadar çok sağlıklı bir sebze olarak insanların sofrasında yerini almıştır. Latince Adı: Malva sylvestris, Μάλβα η άγρια Familya: Malvaceae Kithira’da Bilinen Adı: Μολόχα (Moloha), Αγριομολόχα (Agriomoloha) Yunanistan’nın Diğer Bölgelerinde Bilinen Adı: Αγριομολόχα (Agriomoloha), Μολόχα (Moloha), Αμπελόχα (Ambeloha), Μαλάχη (Malahi), Αμπελόχη (Ambeloha), Μουλάγκα(Moulaga) Toplama: Genellikle ısırgan otunun bulunduğu arazilerde bulunur. Toplanması için en uygun dönem ise haziran’dan Eylül’e kadardır. Özellikleri: Tahriş olmuş ciltlerde ağrı kesici olarak kullanılır. Sindirim sistemini temizleme ve yatıştırıcı özellikleri vardır. Ebegümecinin kökleri ise bazı cilt hastalıklarının tedavisinde kullanılan bir merhem hazırlanır.
