En 1992 el arqueólogo Ioannis Sakelarakis y su equipo descubrieron en Agios Georgios en Vunó, un santuario minoico de cumbre que no había sido profanado. Los minoicos controlaban el mar de Citera desde ese observatorio. A la vez, desde el mismo punto transmitían información, por medio de un sistema de antorchas, entre Peloponeso y Creta. En las excavaciones se descubrieron utensilios de piedra y de cerámica, tinajas, ídolos etc.
