Η συκιά είναι ένα από τα πιο κοινά δένδρα της υπαίθρου, καθώς αναπτύσσεσαι γρήγορα και πολύ εύκολα, με αποτέλεσμα να απαντάται ακόμα και σε τοίχους. Τα άνθη είναι μικροσκοπικά και κρυμμένα στην αχλαδόμορφη ανθοδόχη που στην ωρίμανσή της είναι ένα από τα πιο γλυκά φρούτα, το σύκο. Οι αρχαίοι Αθηναίοι μάλιστα απαγόρευαν την εξαγωγή σύκων, αφού τα θεωρούσαν πολύτιμο αγαθό που έπρεπε να το απολαμβάνουν μόνο οι κάτοικοι του κλειστού άστεως. Επιστημονική ονομασία: Ficus carica, Συκή η καρική Οικογένεια: Fagaceae Κυθηραϊκή ονομασία: Συκιά Ονομασία σε άλλα μέρη της Ελλάδας: Συκιά, Ορνός, Αγριοσυκιά, Ορνιά Συλλογή: Οι καρποί, τα φύλλα και τα βλαστάρια του φυτού. Η συκιά συναντάται σε όλες τις εκτάσεις των Κυθήρων. Ιδιότητες: ο καρπός είναι καθαρτικός. Καταπολεμά στοματικές ασθένειες όπως ουλίτιδα, στοματίτιδα, φαρυγγίτιδα. Αντιβηχικό. Χρησιμοποιείται και σε δερματικές παθήσεις.
