Kythera<\/a>\u00a0setzte sich mit der Ankunft der Venezianer im 13. Jahrhundert durch, ein von den Christen \u00fcbernommener Brauch zum Beweis der harmonischen sozialen Koexistenz.\r\n\r\nDas Wappen ist komplex und besteht aus mehreren Elementen. Das Wichtigste sind der Schild und die verzierenden Embleme \u2013 symbolische Darstellungen der Herkunft, Werte und historischen Taten der Tr\u00e4ger. Zu den bekanntesten Emblemen der kirchlichen Wurzeln von Griechenland und Kythira geh\u00f6rt der gefiederte L\u00f6we von St. Marc, ein bekanntes Emblem der venezianischen Republik, das von den vielen Jahren venezianischer Pr\u00e4senz auf der Insel zeugt. Der L\u00f6we wird typischerweise mit dem Evangelium in seiner linken Pfote dargestellt, um darauf hinzuweisen, dass das Geb\u00e4ude, an welchem das Wappen angebracht ist, in Friedenszeiten errichtet wurde (z. B. Venier).\r\n\r\nDie Ausstellung ist in drei Themenbereiche untergliedert: a) Familien aus Familienzweigen, die Wappen beinhalten, welche als Varianten der heraldischen Darstellung zur selben Familie geh\u00f6ren; b) Identit\u00e4tswappen, die ohne jede andere Variation der heraldischen Darstellung bestimmten Familien zugeordnet sind; c) Wappen der Familien des Bischofs von Kythira, wie Bischof Mothromi, der das Fl\u00fcstersymbol in der Mitte des Wappenschilds tr\u00e4gt.
