In der Gegend von Paleopolis liegt der alte Hafen von Skanida, welcher der Hafen der Hauptstadt Kythira war. Der Hafen versank während des großen Erdbebens 375 nach Christus. In der Vergangenheit wurden hier in der Gegend archäologische Studien durchgeführt. Die uralten Gräber sind in Skandia sind heute besuchbar.
